I didn’t stick the landing

Low risk plaque presentation goes south

A miscommunication between Assistant Athletic Director Sarah Jones and myself last Tuesday night at The Reimer Center ended with me on the floor of the gymnasium getting up with assistance from Christian Kirk and Landry Bacon.

It was a simple enough task and one I’d done for the past 34 years.

Read the accomplishments of the Heart of Oklahoma Football Players of the Year and hand over their plaques.

But for whatever reason Sarah and I missed the handoff zone for the microphone and the cord from the mic got wrapped around my feet and ankles.

After a couple of steps toward mid-court it was all over and I was on my way to a hard landing on Reimer’s hardwood.

Nothing was hurt but my pride...that is until the next day as the old bones began to remind me of the impact with the floor.

I jokingly said the next day the Russian Judge gave me a five.

Retired optometrist Ron Page said if I landed on my feet he would have given me a 9.5.

As it turned out, it was more like a 9.5 on the Richter Scale.

I didn’t get any help on degree of difficulty, either.

The degree of difficulty on walking 15 feet on a hard, flat surface is not that arduous.
