Gay was born and raised in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She competed in beauty pageants. Gay met the love of her life, John Edelman, on a blind date on June 8, 1964. They were engaged on August 8th, and they married on October 2, 1964. Their marriage stood the test of time and lasted 53 faithful years. In Gay’s early years, she was a beautician and worked at a salon and took great pride in making ugly people pretty. After making a career change, she went to work at Wire Co. Wire Rope, as office and warehouse manager, where she spent the next 35 years. In 1992, her job transferred her to Moore, where they would spend the rest of their lives together.
Gay loved to work in the yard where she was constantly planting and arranging flowers. She was constantly busy, never sitting down. She always had a pitcher of sweet tea ready or as the kids called it, “Liquid Diabetes.”
Later in life, her passion turned to her grandkids, they called her “G-Ma.” She always supported them in activities and sports and being their biggest fan.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Marvella Meldrum; and her beloved husband, John.
