It’s bad enough to have to attend a funeral for someone you love.

But two in one day is a little over the top.

First there was Greg Dixon in the morning at Crosspointe Church in Norman.

Then that afternoon at Wilson-Little’s Chapel we attended the funeral of Clarica Wall.

Both of those two people were part of our family.

Not just friends but more.

Aunt Clarica and Uncle Ralph are universal all across Oklahoma.

One time when Ralph was passing out quarters as he always does, I was standing by Frank Merrill.

After Uncle Ralph waltzed through Frank make the comment, “We’ve got a bowl full of Uncle Ralph quarters.”

Clarica always had special bags for the little spooks and goblins at Halloween and it was a can’t miss stop for John Denny, Emily, Jack, Lane and Thomas as well as countless other trick-or-treaters.

Dixon was like a brother.

In fact, that’s what he called me.

When Greg would enter the newspaper there was no doubt who was coming in or who it was.

He made his presence known.

He talked about playing football with Brian Bosworth and joked one time that he would have to take the jersey number that no one else wanted.

Dixon was a special teams player at OU. Barry Switzer was among the 500 or more folks at his service.

How many people were at the over-flow service is anybody’s guess.

It isn’t a guess that Dixon was a genuine, great guy that would do anything in his power for you.

He’s going to be dearly missed.
