Mr. Sherman passed away on June 2, 2026 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Carey Lynn Sherman was born on February 16, 1944 in Purcell, Okla., to Carl David Sherman and Syble Estelle Sherman (Scott).
He grew up in Lexington, attended school there, and graduated with the Bulldog class of 1962. Carey began attending The University of Oklahoma, obtaining his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. During college he was drafted into the United States Army. Carey spent his enlisted years in Washington D.C. at Walter Reed National Military Center.
While attending Falls Creek, he met a young lady named Sharon Kay Ward. They quickly fell in love and were married on June 4, 1965.
Early on in his career as a Pharmacist, Carey moved back to Lexington to help with the family farm. In 1970, he began working at Sooner Pharmacy in Norman. By 1974 he had entered into ownership of the business. Carey proudly ran Sooner Pharmacy until his retirement in 2017, all the while working on the farm, raising cattle and farming.
He was a gifted singer, pianist and organist, and found great joy in putting those gifts to use in the Church. Carey served as music director for a time at First Baptist Church Lexington, where he was a member his entire life. He also sang in several gospel quartets throughout the years. Most recently, he sang bass alongside his son in the Broken Vessel Quartet. He was also passionate about serving the church’s mission partner in Suriname, and made several trips there.
In his free time, Carey was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating at Lake Texoma and Lake Thunderbird. Carey was also a lifelong car lover. Carey’s dream car was a 1956 Ford Victoria named “Lilly” that he had longed for since his teenage years. Carey finally obtained “Lilly” in the early 70’s. “Lilly” is still in the family’s possession. Carey was a beloved husband and father who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Syble Sherman and his brother, Dr. David Sherman.
Carey is survived by his wife, Kay Sherman of the home; his children, Kyle Sherman and wife, Chandra, of Lexington and Kristin Green and husband, Blake, of Norman. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Logan Sherman and husband, Michael Thomas, Elijah Green and wife, Charis, Noah Sherman and Micah Green.
