Candidates for the Board of Education in Blanchard, Dibble, Mid-America Tech Center, Newcastle, Purcell, Washington and Wayne McClain County school districts will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday, December 2.
Karen Haley, Secretary of the McClain County Election Board, said Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, when the filing period ends.
Haley reminds voters that Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, December 6, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office.
Contests against unopposed candidates may be filed by contacting the County Election Board.
If more than two candidates file for the same Board of Education seat, a Primary Election will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
If one candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, that candidate will be declared the elected official.
If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will vie for the office during the Board of Education General Election, Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
If only two candidates file for the same Board of Education office, those two candidates’ names will appear on the General Election ballot in April.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted for the following offices:
Purcell School District I-15, Member Board of Education Position # 5 – 5 year term.
Blanchard School District I-29, Member Board of Education Position #5, 5 year term.
Dibble School District I-2, Member Board of Education Position #5, 5 year term.
Newcastle School District I-1, Member Board of Education Position #5, 5 year term.
Washington School District I-15, Member Board of Education Position #5, 5 year term.
Wayne School District I-10, Member Board of Education Position #5, 5 year term.
Mid-America Technology Center TC 8 – Board of Education Position #1, 5 year term.
Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections or by contacting your County Election Board office at 405-527-3121 or mcclaincounty@elections.ok.gov.
The McClain County Election Board is located at 121 N. 2nd Avenue in Purcell and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
