Members of the Purcell TSA who attended the National TSA Convention in Washington, D.C. were honored at the board of education meeting last Monday night.

Students in attendance were Aryan Marfatia, Evan Shobert, Asher Stone, Ethan Heck and Jeremiah Berger, who were accompanied by principals Rowdy Cole and Ricky Hammer and TSA Instructor Corryn Breidinger.

The board also voted to utilize the Perry Weather Service 26-27, which will pinpoint the forecast for Purcell giving things like wind speed, humidity and temperature. Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo said it will send wet bulb readings directly to coaches’ cell phones.

“This is something Brian Fitzgerald said other schools use and we are going to give it a try to see how it works for us,” Dr. McAdoo said. “We are researching where to install it.”

Cost of the service is $4,500.

Board members approved the FY27 textbook committee for social studies and the FY27 textbook for science. On the social studies committee are Kurt Gray, Bryan Young, Brian McCalip,
Aimee Arnold, Sharie Wilhoit, Jessica Gabbard (parent) and Carolyn Anyoung. Committee members on the science curriculum are Emma Patton, Steve Clary, Kasey Jones, Kendra Dobbins, Scott Marion (parent) and Anyoung.

Fund-raisers were approved for after prom and high school STUCO.

The FY27 gifted and talented committee consists of Rebecca Franco, Renee Russell, Michelle Hall, Melissa Feroli, Lauren Masters, Jon Corera, David Hilger and Malachi Blaxton.

The board approved the school calendar for the 2027-28 school year and approved the purchase of a new Chevrolet Suburban with a trade-in of a 2012 Ford F-250 truck.

Board members approved out-of-state travel for the PHS baseball team to Gulf Shores, Ala. for a spring break tournament and stipends of $500 for a Special Olympics coach and $300 for the assistant coach. Crystal Sheehy will be the head coach and Jenny Allen-Price will be the assistant coach.

Dr. McAdoo reported the punch list for the Ag Barn has been completed with a walking punch list at the FEMA Gym scheduled for Thursday. Work is continuing at the elementary and intermediate schools with painting at the elementary and sheet rocking at the intermediate school.

Also at the meeting, the board approved the 26/27 estimate of needs.
