Memorial services for Winnie Louise (Newton) Box, 76, of Lexington will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mrs. Box passed away on May 22, 2024.
Louise was born February 27,1948 in Wanette, Oklahoma. She was the eighth of nine children born to Dolly Pickle. Louise grew up around the Lexington/Wanette area and attended school in Lexington.
Louise married the love of her life, Don Box, on May 28, 1964 in Chandler, Arizona. Together they raised three children, sons, Michael and Jeffrey and daughter Dawn Marie. The couple shared 47 amazing years before the passing of Don in 2012.
Louise was a hard, dedicated worker. She gave it her all no matter what capacity she was working in. She started working within nursing homes then began working within the school. Louise worked at Lexington Schools for 33 years as a bus driver and custodian. She absolutely loved being around the kids! Louise was a mother to many, and opened her heart and her home to many area kids.
Louise’s whole life centered around her husband and her children, then later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was everything to her. She did not miss any activities they were involved in. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, listening to country and gospel music and cooking for her family and friends. She was known for her amazing beans, fried potatoes and cornbread.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Box; her son, Jeff Box; her mother, Dolly Hawkins; step-dad, Charles Hawkins; her brothers, Gene Newton, Frank Newton, Sam Newton, Dickie Newton, Donnie Newton and Red Newton and her infant baby sister.
She is survived by her son, Mike Box and wife, Janet, of Blanchard; her daughter, Dawn Marie Box of Lexington; her brother, Bill Newton and wife, Shirley, of Macomb; her sister, Anita Mooneyham and husband, Lesley; her pride and joy grandkids, Katherine Walton and husband, Philip, Jon Thomas Box and wife, Kaylee, Andru Box, Rylan McNeely and Kaylee McNeely; her precious great-grands, Zoey Walton, Daisy Magnie, Christopher Walton, Lucas Walton, Magnolia Magnie, Huxton Krout and Edmund Box; and numerous family and friends. She was loved so much and will be missed immensely.
