Wayne travels to Ringling

The Wayne Bulldogs travel to Ringling Friday night for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Blue Devils.

Ringling (4-2) will bring their signature brand of football to the game, according to Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp.

“Their defense will fly to the football and have bad intentions when they get there,” he said.

The Ringling defense is a “hybrid” 4-3 according to Sharp.

“They walk their two outside linebackers down to the line of scrimmage and it gives you a 6-1 look,” he said. “They just smother you.”

Offensively they will get into multiple formations and rush the football.

“They run power and the counter and rush the ball about 80% of the time,” Sharp said. “They run the ball hard.”

Their biggest weapon offensively is their senior tailback Will Inselman, who has track speed. A key for the Bulldogs will be limiting him.

Ringling is coached by Phillip Koons.

Rush Springs

Wayne fell to Rush Springs 27-8 last week.

The Redskins scored a touchdown in each quarter and held the lead for the entirety of the game.

Wayne struck pay dirt in the third quarter on a 60-yard kickoff return by Sloan Jackson.

The two-point conversion try was made good by Jaxon Dill.

“I keep telling the team we have a weapon in the return game,” Sharp said. “Sloan has had two punt returns and a kickoff return called back and still has had two that counted. He does a good job in the return game.”

The Wayne offense struggled to gain traction during the night as the Rush Springs defense pressured Dill for much of the night.

“He was under pressure and we’re still shooting ourselves in the foot,” Sharp said.

Fierce up front

The defense got a boost up front from defensive lineman Duke Moore, Kody Kern and Brandon Logston.

“Our defensive line played pretty well,” Sharp said. “Our defensive tackles and two ends are playing well and getting after it.”

Moore finished the night with seven tackles and two sacks while Kern registered six tackles and two sacks.

Logston came in at end and had four tackles and three sacks.

Wayne held Rush Springs to 96 yards rushing and 82 yards through the air.

“They weren’t dominating us,” Sharp said.

Wayne is now 1-5 on the year.

Notes

Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp nominated Duke Moore and Kody Kern for Heart of Oklahoma Defensive Linemen of the Week.
