Two losses to Sentinel ends Lady Bulldogs’ season

Late last week Wayne was host to Sentinel and Bennington for the District tournament.

They started off with a 13-0 win over Bennington and a 5-1 win over Sentinel.

Those two wins set up a rematch with Sentinel. The Lady Bulldogs beat Wayne 5-3. That loss pushed the if-game and Wayne lost 3-1 to end their season.

“We just couldn’t quite string it together. The atmosphere changed for us about halfway through the first Sentinel loss and we weren’t able to get our momentum back,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

Bennington

The Lady Bulldogs collected 10 hits and eight ribbies on their way to a lopsided 13-0 win over Bennington.

Jordynn Debaets had long balls in the second and third innings and led the team with five RBIs.

Faith Brazell, Taelyn Ringwald and Audra Watts each had a run batted in.

Addison Clagg was in the circle for the win. She fanned three batters and gave up just one hit.

Sentinel

Wayne picked up a 5-1 win in their first game with Sentinel.

They had 12 hits in the win. Addison Keeler, Debaets, Ringwald and Cylie Jones had two apiece. Brazell, Alyssa Hobson, Watts and Ava Stottlemyre each had one.

Brazell was in the circle and she struck out seven.

Wayne faced Sentinel again and dropped that game 5-3, despite collecting nine hits.

Brazell and Keeler led the team with two while Ringwald, Jones, Hobson, Watts and Stottlemyre had one hit each.

Brazell homered in the seventh to score two runs.

The if-game with Sentinel was a 3-1 loss for Wayne.

The Lady Bulldogs had six hits but could only push one run across in the game.

Wayne finished the season with a 14-15 record.

Three seniors will be lost to graduation – Brazell, Debaets and Ashley Hayles.

“Faith and Jordynn have been mainstays in the field for us. Faith in the circle is solid and Jordynn has locked down the outfield. Ashley has been the voice in the dugout. I’m proud of her leadership,” Herrin said.
