Funeral services for Virginia Boydston, 80, of Purcell were held Monday, August 3, 2020 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Boydston passed away in her home Thursday, July 30, 2020.

Virginia Mae Sparlin was born April 26, 1940, the second of six children born to Arthur Ray Sparlin and Doris Lee (Hortter) Sparlin. She was raised in Purcell and attended school there, graduating with the Dragon Class of 1957. Virginia then attended and graduated Draughn’s Business School.

By chance, she met a young man named Bennie Lee Boydston. He couldn’t help but notice her, and so he asked her for a date. She declined the first time, but they met again a few months later when he offered to fix a flat tire for her. Bennie’s persistence paid off as she accepted this time, and the rest as they say, is history.

Virginia and Bennie made it official and were married on July 11, 1958 in Lexington, Oklahoma. They made their home in the Purcell/Lexington area where together they raised two daughters, Brenda and Vicky. Virginia worked for many years as a secretary for Purcell High School. She loved watching generations of Dragons growing up and following their dreams.

In addition, she sold Home Interiors for more than 20 years, and she loved her customers and hosting parties.  When she wasn’t working, Virginia enjoyed camping and fishing with Bennie and later on, taking travel bus tours.

Her greatest joy was her family and friends and she cherished them all.  Some knew her as “Ma,” some as “Nana” and some as “Pinky,” and no matter how you knew her, you loved her. She was a wonderful wife and mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Brandon Snow and parents, Arthur and Doris Sparlin.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Bennie Boydston of the home; her daughters, Brenda Snow and husband, Tony, of Noble and Vicky Cantrell and husband, Kyle, of Afton; her brother, Raymond Sparlin of Arkansas City, Kan.; four sisters, Barbara Lynn and husband, Melvin, of Norman, Kay Barry of Norman, Susan Pannell and husband, Steve, of Vian and Peggy Faulkenberry and husband, Bill, of Purcell; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
