Funeral services for Ray Leon Sharp, 94, of Wayne were held November 20, 2023 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Hopping Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Sharp passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Sunset Estates in Purcell.

He was born November 27, 1928 in Wayne, Okla., the baby of three children born to Samuel Arch Sharp and Ludia Bell (Murray) Sharp. Ray was raised in Wayne and attended school there, graduating with the Bulldog Class of 1948.

Later that same year on November 13, Ray married his sweetheart, Barbara “Sue” Wallace. Together they raised three children, son Tommy and daughters Connie and Sammie.

Ray drove a truck for a living, and logged countless miles hauling cross country. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting. Later on, he and Sue looked forward to their annual trip to Priest Gulch, Colorado, where they spent months at a time in their travel trailer. He was a huge OU Sooner fan and a longtime ticket holder in several sports.

Ray’s heart however was always in Wayne, and he was incredibly proud of his family lineage there, spanning more than six generations. He was a Bulldog through and through. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Sue Sharp; son Tommy Sharp; parents, Samuel and Ludia Bell Sharp and his sisters, Jackie Jo Courtney and Lenora Sherrod.

Ray is survived by his daughters, Connie Ellis of Wayne and Sammie Logan and husband, Bill, of Paoli; daughter-in-law, Alleen Sharp of Rosedale; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends.
