A Purcell Baker will appear on Food Network’s Show “The Big Bake Halloween.”

Brooke Taylor learned to cook and bake as a young girl alongside the women of her family.

Nowadays she is showcasing her skills on an international TV show and teaching at baking conferences across the country.

Brooke grew up in the Texas Panhandle.

She spent her youth competing in rodeos.

She got the nickname “Cookie” in high school because she would bake treats as payment for people letting her use their practice pen.

Taylor went to Texas A&M on a rodeo scholarship and continued to bake delicious goodies.

After college, Brooke would often make treats to share with her co-workers.

“I would try recipes and practice decorating, it became my creative outlet,” Taylor said. “Then people started to pay me. It has been about eight years since I started selling goods.” Taylor said.

Bunny’s Bakery was named after a pet bunny Brooke had named Cupcake.

“She was black and white and had a little chef’s mustache in her pattern.

“I had a lot of down time during the pandemic so I really threw myself into baking. That’s when I picked up sugar art. Sugar art is what got me on ‘Halloween Wars’,” Taylor explained.

She made her cooking show debut on “Halloween Wars” season 11.

She was back on “Halloween Wars” again in season 12.

Brooke won “The Big Bake Halloween” in 2022 and is pulling out all of the stops for another win on “The Big Bake Halloween” 2023, airing on October 23 on The Food Network.

“I love filming so if there is a show, I apply,” she said with a smile.

Taylor described filming as “all of the emotions combined. You are excited, sad, happy and mad. It’s exhilarating!”

Filming “The Big Bake” episode was done in one day. Brooke explained that they started around 5 or 6 a.m. and wrapped up around midnight.

“We had five hours to put up a cake that is four feet tall,” the baker said.

Brooke had two other bakers on her team for The Big Bake.

She pulled her online friends in for the task.

They had never met in person until filming.

Brooke and her online baking pals had to plan everything virtually.

“Our theme is out of the box and really fun. It’s never been done,” Taylor said.

“When I am in stressful situations I find that I get funny and weird.”

The producers must like Brooke’s brand of weird because they keep asking her to come back.

“At the end, it’s just cake and it isn’t too serious,” she said.

When asked about where she learned to bake, she explained, “I don’t have any formal training. It’s my great-grandma’s recipes and some new recipes I have tweaked over time.”

She said ,“I would really like to expand my knowledge base. I want to learn about French pastry.”

Brooke hopes to open up her own shop one day where she “can educate people on what’s available beyond cake.”

She is having a lot of fun making dessert tables for parties right now.

Taylor likes to make these because it gives her a chance to showcase more of her skills and it gives the guests more variety of sweets to choose from.

Brooke lives in Purcell with her husband, Guy, and their son, Jace.

“Thank you to my husband for putting up with my crazy and always supporting my dreams,” Taylor said.
