Graveside services for Lillian Murray, 98, of Wayne were held Friday, December 8, at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Murray passed away on December 5, 2023 surrounded by family.

Lillian E. (Clagg) Murray was born June 29, 1925 in Lindsay, Okla., to Herbert C and Vernessa  (Vawter) Clagg. She was the fourth of seven children born to the couple. She spent most of her life around the Lindsay/Wayne area and attended Bryant School.

On May 17, 1941, she married Sidney E. Murray and together the couple made their home in Wayne, Okla. They had one daughter, Janet. In May 1965, the couple welcomed two nephews into their home as part of the family, Douglas and Darrell Clagg.

Lillian operated a beauty shop in her home for over 30 years, worked at the McClain County Court Clerk’s office and ended her career as Judge Ewing’s bailiff. No matter what profession she was in, she was dedicated and loyal.

Lillian’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the absolute world to her. She cherished spending time teaching the great-grandchildren crocheting and embroidering. She was known for her “famous hot-rolls”. Her house was full of pictures of her precious loved ones.

She had a special “knack”  of making everyone feel special, treasured and loved. Lillian loved and was loved by a lot of people. If you knew her, chances are you have been told by her “I love you, come to see me”. She was loved deeply and will be missed immensely.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. and Vernessa Clagg; and her siblings, Evalena Ballard, Phillip Clagg, David Clagg, Issac Clagg and Naomi Henderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet McGowen and husband, Benny, of Wayne; her grandsons, Terry McGowen and wife, Stacy, of Paoli and Kirk McGowen and wife, Kristy, of Wayne; her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kiley, Kade, Jaci, Hadlee, Lucas, Cody and Blakely McGowen; two special nephews, Douglas Clagg and wife, Bonnie, of Chandler and Darrell Clagg and wife, Gayla, of Elmore City; her sister, Anna Baker and husband, Delbert Morrison, of Wayne; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
