Lexington native and 2006 graduate Jennifer Douglas coached the El Reno Indians to the 5A State Girls Championship this past season.

The Indians finished the 2023-24 basketball campaign 28-0, defeating defending State Champion Sapulpa in the finals at Lloyd Noble Arena, 48-41.

Douglas, who attended Lexington Schools for all 12 years, has been coaching at El Reno for the past eight years.

The Indians have made the State Tournament seven out of her eight seasons and had previously won two Silver Balls before taking the top prize this season.

After earning her degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Douglas taught elementary school for three years.

She was an assistant girls coach at Midwest City for one year, when the Bombers were State Champions, and broke into the head coaching position at U.S. Grant for two years.

“Candy Hunt was the softball coach my freshman and sophomore years at Lexington,” Douglas said. “She was the athletic director at U.S. Grant and offered me the head coaching position.

“That’s how it all started,” she said.
