Lady Bulldogs knocked out

Last week, Wayne hosted Districts playoffs and lost to Savanna (7-4) and Stratford (16-4) to end their season. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a 13-6 record.

“We just didn’t play our best in both games. One positive is that Ava (Stottlemyre) did so well in the circle for us. She’s a sophomore and this is her first season getting the bulk of the pitching,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

Herrin went on to say that out of 536 batters faced all season, Stottlemyre only walked 36.

Three seniors will be lost to graduation – Faith Brazell, Jordynn Debaets and Ashley Hayles.

“We’ll miss the seniors’ bats and leadership. They have great sticks and work extremely hard. Ashley maybe didn’t have as much time in the field, but she was always our dugout leader. She has a positive attitude and was always helping.

“We’ll miss the seniors a lot.”

Savanna

Wayne collected nine hits in the 7-4 loss to the Lady Bulldogs. Debaets and Audra Watts led the team with two hits apiece. Lily Whitaker and Brazell had two RBIs each.

“We hit to their best players in right and left field. But, they found the gaps to score runs,” Herrin said.

Stottlemyre pitched all seven innings. She walked one batter and allowed seven runs (five earned) on 12 hits.

Stratford

Wayne collected 16 hits in the loss to Stratford, but nine errors in the field did them in.

“It’s hard to win with that many errors. And, that just happens sometimes. We talked about how those errors don’t define us. We are still a great team; bad days happen,” Herrin said.

Watts led the team with three hits and two RBIs. She singled in the first and third inings and doubled in the fourth.

Taelyn Ringwald, Addison Keeler, Brysten Shephard, Debaets, Whitaker and Brazell each had two hits.
