Purcell Firefighters teamed with firefighters from five other departments Friday afternoon to battle a grass fire at 16144 Meridian near Dibble.

Also answering the call in near hurricane force winds just after 1 p.m. were firefighters from Blanchard, Dibble, Goldsby, Payne and Washington.

Purcell firemen also answered a call for a small grass fire at Sunset and Blue Bird Terrace sparked by arcing power lines due to the excessive wind.

The cause was the same for a grass fire at 603 S. Lester Lane about 3:20 p.m.

All the fires were successfully extinguished.

Wn estimated 8,000 OEC customers were in the dark for a short time Friday due to the extremely high winds.

Those customers included residents in Lexington and Slaughterville.

Power was knocked out at 2:43 and restored at 3:07 p.m.
