Funeral services for George Demorest, 80, of Purcell, formerly of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Demorest passed away on December 22, 2023.

George Richard Demorest was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, on August 3, 1943 to Robert Edward Demorest and Irene Elizabeth Demorest (Marsack). George grew up in the Detroit area and attended school there.

For a time, he attended a seminary in hopes of becoming a clergyman, but life called him back to Michigan. He left home and school at 17 to enlist in the United States Navy in July of 1961. George left the service in February of 1965 after serving proudly and suffering a severe injury to his hand.

He met a young lady named Dolores Ann Fancil through his sister and they quickly hit it off. George and Dolores were married on November 13, 1965 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Detroit, and shared 58 years of marriage together.

George worked in the automotive industry and followed where it led. They made their home in Detroit, Robinson, Illinois, and Holly, Michigan, before moving to Oklahoma. George worked for HB Fuller and spent his working years in Oklahoma at the GM plant in Oklahoma City.

While his boys were young, he served as a little league coach for a number of years. George took pride in watching the kids he coached grow in skill and fortitude as he often encouraged them to just “rub a little dirt on it” when times got tough. He was a proud supporter of his sons’ athletic endeavors as they transitioned to basketball and tennis, he always cheered from the stands and had a few pointers to share after the game.

George and Dolores moved back to Michigan in 1996 after their boys had finished school, and settled in Mt. Clemens. They called it home until heading back to Oklahoma in 2022 to be nearer to family. George loved watching the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder, and even optimistically rooted for the Lions every season. He loved the holidays, and found joy painting Christmas decorations, and sending e-cards for every occasion. He was an active member of his church, and sang in the choir at St. Isidore in Macomb, Michigan.

George and his beloved dog Zoey were inseparable the last few years. He took her for walks in the park and hand fed her supper every night. George was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Irene Demorest and his sister, Virginia Demorest.

George is survived by his wife, Dolores of the home; his sons, Richard Demorest and wife, Tabitha, of Oklahoma City, Adam Demorest and wife, Cherry, of Purcell, Jamie Demorest and wife, McKala, of Marysville, Mich., and Jason Demorest and wife, Irene, of Frankfurt, Germany; his siblings, Ed Demorest of Virginia Beach, Va., Earl Demorest of Tulsa, Okla., and John Demorest of Roscommon, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Chris, Julie, Kaitlyn, Tiffany, Skylar, Jayden, Olivia, Roman, and Ellie and two great-grandchildren, David and Isla.
