Administrators hope students will utilize the program

Lexington Public Schools will participate in a program  which will allow free breakfasts and lunches for every student, regardless of income levels.

Lexington schools has accepted Community Provision status for Child Nutrition.

Beginning this fall, all students are eligible for free meals during the school year.

The key to the program working though is students taking advantage of it.

“If we can get participation up (from students) it will help us,” said Lexington Schools Superintendent Chad Hall. “If people don’t normally eat a school lunch or breakfast and they choose to participate it will help out the program.”

The more students who eat free breakfasts and lunches through the school, the more money the school will get to defray their costs of child nutrition.

The State of Oklahoma has granted initial approval of the program at Lexington for four years.

Hall said the District will review the program and how it’s working after each year.

“I hope it can be permanent,” he said. “We were glad to be able to do it and it will go as far as people support it.”
