Big district game Friday with Davis

Lexington scored on a pair of Cadyn Krueger pass plays in the second quarter and held off Tishomingo on the road last Friday 12-8.

The Bulldogs, now 2-2 and 1-0 in district play will host Davis this coming Friday night at 7:30 at Floyd West Field.

The first Krueger aerial found the waiting arms of senior Skylar Rollins good for 32 yards and six points.

Later in the period, Krueger hit junior Reagan Smith on a five yard scoring strike.

Head coach Keith Bolles credited his offensive line with paving the way for sophomore Cameron Weatherford to rush for 102 yards on 21 carries. Rollins ended the night with three catches for 69 yards.

“Our O-line is getting better,” Bolles said.

He was talking about the play of Wyatt McBride, Issac Martin, Nevin Merrick, Trace Bradsher and Cash Lippel.

“They are starting to get better and learning the schemes,” the coach continued. “And Doby Brewer made a lot of good blocks. If it were an I-formation he would be the fullback. He had a good game defensively as well.”

Senior Ean Caywood led the team in tackles with nine while junior Gavrie Williams and Krueger both had eight stops. Krueger also had an interception of an errant Indian pass.

Up next for the Bulldogs is a tall order when the Wolves come to town Friday.

They still employ their old standard of the wishbone but also line up in the broken bone with some spread and one back sets.

“They use anywhere from 11 to 13 different people on offense,” Bolles reports.

When they are on defense, the Wolves will be in a 3-4 but like to walk their outside linebackers up  to give opponents a five man front.

“They slant one way or another and do a really good job,” Bolles said.

“The key for us to be successful is to keep the ball away from them. We need to take what they give us on offense and take care of the football,” the coach confirmed.

Bulldog notes:

Lexington Head Coach Keith Bolles nominated Cameron Weatherford as the Offensive Player of the Week for his 102 yards rushing on 21 carries against Tishomingo.

Bolles nominated Ean Caywood as the Defensive Player of the Week. He had nine tackles including one for a loss against the Indians.

Getting the nod as the Defensive Lineman of the Week was Issac Martin, who had six tackles including two for losses.

There was no nomination for Offensive Lineman of the Week.
