Bon appétit

Posted

It’s been a long time coming - nearly 16 months to be exact.

But on July 1, the senior citizens centers in Purcell and Wayne will open for in-person dining at lunchtime.

John Webb, site manager for Delta Nutrition which operates both facilities, was given a choice of reopening in August or July.

He opted for the earlier date with 16 months of daily phone calls from patrons all asking the same question – “When will you reopen?” – fresh in his mind.

“The natives get restless,” he said.

No restrictions means masks will be optional.

But there are still rules to follow.

Take for instance reservations.

Everyone is supposed to make them.

And lunch will be served promptly at 11:30 a.m.

The re-opening will usher in one change. The centers are eliminating to-go orders, although home delivery is still an option.

“I hope we get the regulars back that day,” Webb said. “I hope we get 40 in here, but that might be optimistic.”

Time will tell.

And even for the regulars, getting back into the normal swing of things will take some adjustment.

By opening on July 1, the centers will serve lunch just two days before closing for the national Independence Day holiday on the following Monday.

Webb also reminded anyone age 60 or older that they are eligible to eat at the centers.

Just know, there’s a little more involved than showing up with an appetite.

Some intake paperwork is necessary, as well.

Webb suggested anyone meeting the age requirement call him at 405-527-9462.
