The board of education for Purcell Public Schools is down one member after Kim Croslin’s letter of resignation was accepted at Monday’s meeting.

Croslin was re-elected in 2019 to a 5-year term in her Office 4 seat.

That term will expire in 2024.

The board will name a replacement next month to complete Croslin’s unexpired term.

Several new hires were approved following an executive session. Those are Jacqueline Grimes, first grade; Misty Winters, fourth grade; Kayla Sweeney, junior high paraprofessional; Bryan Young, high school algebra and geometry; DeAnna Newman, junior high special education; Sherrie Smith, Deserae Austin and Roxanne Venegas, high school paraprofessionals; Kaitlyn Austin and Amber Page, intermediate school paraprofessionals, and Shannon Smith, Education Station assistant.

In other business, the board:

  • awarded the district’s paper bid for 2021-22 to Contract Paper Group Inc., for $10,185;
  • awarded the food service management to Keystone for 2021-22, and
  • approved the district’s Safe Return to Learn Plan for school years 2022 through 2024.

The plan is a requirement for the district to receive rounds 2 and 3 of emergency relief funds under the federal government’s American Rescue Plan. The district is surveying parents and staff on the district’s plan and those results will be posted online June 22.

The board will have a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to award the district’s property insurance to a new company.

The current insurance carrier is no longer in business.
