What a country we live in.

The top two presidential candidates are a pair to draw to.

One hardly knows what day it is and the other one is fighting to stay out of jail.

With an open southern border we have the possibility for bad guys, potential spies and the Mexican Cartel among those not being sorted out as they come across.

We have college professors teaching that Hamas is okay even though they started the current war by killing innocent people and are continuing to do so.

We have a national debt that is costing us more a year in interest than we spend on Medicare or our national defense.

And, we have male athletes competing against females and dressing in female dressing rooms.

The more you learn about the shenanigans of State Superintendent of Schools Ryan Walters the more it turns your stomach.

In this week’s Register there is an Oklahoma Watch story that starts on page 2A and continues on page 5A detailing the hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars that Walters spent on a PR firm to promote his personal political aspirations and not for the good of Oklahoma schools and teachers.

He is a parasite on our state and running the Department of Education into the ground.

Even his good buddy Kevin Stitt frowned on the hiring of the PR firm.

Norman physician and 1961 Purcell High School graduate Rick McCurdy sent me a text first thing Monday morning with sad news about one of his PHS classmates.

“We lost my dear friend Herman Cheadle yesterday,” Dr. McCurdy said in his text. “Phenomenal Dragon. Always in my heart,” Rick said.

A tip of the hat as usual to Jay Tate and his crew for putting together an outstanding Memorial Day program at Hillside Cemetery.

Tate and his volunteers put out over 1,320 American Flags at graves of veterans and recounted that it has now been at least 50 years of Flanders Field being read at the event.

Tate singled out the assistance of the Purcell Cemetery Staff, the City of Purcell, Jerry Hayes, Rear Admiral Doug McClain, Cpl.. Kyle Mobley, MPO Jeremy Pittman, Officer Daniel Fumi, Officer Jacob Martz, Officer Trent Houck, the Lexington Marching Band, Wesley Samuel of Landmark Church, his flag helpers and Wilson-Little Funeral Home.

The annual event is always well attended and very well received.
