Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Purcell Police reported shots were fired at the Star Travel Plaza in Purcell, located at 2425 SH 74 south of town and just west of Interstate 35.

Captain James Bolling said the victim’s car was parked by the gas pumps. When they were about to leave a black vehicle blocked their exit.

Bolling said words were exchanged and the driver of the victim’s vehicle attempted to back up to get around the black vehicle.

The driver saw a black person, unknown if male or female, get out of the suspect’s vehicle and point a handgun at the rear of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim’s Volkswagen was shot two times, damaging the car but not striking anyone inside the vehicle.

“The victims were able to speed away and call 911,” Bolling said.

The victims drove to Murphy’s gas station where officers  took a statement from them. 

Bolling said the investigation is ongoing.
