City of Purcell officials and Purcell Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo are working on details for the district to acquire a School Resource Officer.

The city council voted in favor of the idea at its October 7 meeting at the Community Room of the Police Service Building.

Police chief Bobby Elmore, city manager Sam Demel and Dr. McAdoo are working out the details of the idea.

At the same meeting, the council discussed the $40,000 TSET grant and the $10,000 Lime Rock Resources grants that could go toward two new volleyball courts where the old one is at the city lake and making them run north and south to keep the sun out of people’s eyes.

Demel said included in the possible project are four horse shoe courts, four cornhole courts, concrete pads for future structures, sidewalks, a litter receptacle, lighting and a water fountain among other things.

The council approved Andrew McClung to become a member of the planning commission and approved a rezoning at North Green Avenue and Harrison Street from R-2 single-family residential to C-2 for office commercial.

Council members approved a 99-year lease to the City of Lexington for three acres of Purcell owned property in Lexington for a new animal shelter.

They approved usage of insure Oklahoma funds for $250 per full-time employee for Health Saving Account and tabled action on an additional COLA raise for employees pending knowledge of available funds.

That vote could come in December, according to Demel.

Demel told the council he has had nothing but very positive feedback about the recent music festival.

In the PPWA meeting, trustees got an update on the new water well No. 17.

Demel reports all construction on the new well including electric work has been completed. Programming through the computer system was also done this past week. He said after testing they were hoping to get it on line.
