Funeral services Ruth Turner, 93, of Purcell were held December 22, 2020 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Turner passed away Friday, December 18, 2020.

Helen Ruth Hammond was born September 30, 1927 in Purcell, the fifth of nine children born to Roy Hammond and Martha Evelyn (Baxter) Hammond. She was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell Schools, graduating with the Dragon Class of 1946.

Ruth married her best friend and life partner, Vernon Lee Turner on September 9, 1951 in Oklahoma City.  They made their home in Purcell where they raised three children, son Gary and daughters Carol Ann and Pam.

Ruth worked side by side with Vernon in the family business, Turner’s Pharmacy.  Her greatest joy was her family and she was fiercely devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed following them in all their various activities and sporting events, and was by far and away their biggest fan. She adored women’s tennis and watching it every chance she could, and she never missed an opportunity to curl up with a good book.

She was a woman of great faith and life long member of the First Christian Church in Purcell, where she sang in the choir and enjoyed the Christian Women’s Fellowship.  Throughout her life she remained active in her community, and served in the Okeyha Mother’s Club and the CWF.  She was kind hearted and generous in spirit and always looked for the good in life. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, great-grandmother and loyal friend.  She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Turner; parents, Roy and Evelyn Hammond; brothers, Harvey Hammond, Wayne Hammond, Bob Hammond, Jack Hammond and Louis Hammond and sisters, Mildred Bond, Billie Jean Carpenter and Pat Schneider.

Ruth is survived by her son, Gary Turner of Purcell; daughters, Carol Ann Turner and Pam Chilvers, both of Purcell;  grandchildren, Katelyn Duke and husband, Dalton, Jake Combest, Stephanie Bell and Shawn Chilvers; great-grandchildren, Bryntley, Bo, Elowyn and Carsten; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
