Rex Bivins, 82, of Purcell passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023. Rex Dale Bivins was born on November 24, 1940 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, the second of four children born to Dink and Irene (Dixon) Bivins. He grew up in the County Line community and graduated from Fox High School in 1958.
Shortly after graduating high school, he attended business school for a year. While there, he developed an interest in becoming a dispatcher for trucking companies. He worked as a dispatcher for Lee Way Trucking for nearly 15 years, and later at Alan Ritchey Trucking Company where he eventually retired.
Rex married young to Emily Smith in 1962, and to this union two children were born, Robbie and Sheila. They split amicably and were dedicated to being excellent co-parents.
In 1985, Rex was lucky to find love again with a young woman named, Mary Ana Gregg. The two would frequent the same bars and loved to dance together. They quickly fell in love and were married on December 22, 1986. He welcomed Mary and her step-daughter, Kathy, into his family with open arms. The rest, as they say, is history.
Rex was an all-around great guy. He was the life of the party, and was always down to have a good time. He spent much of his free time roping, particularly team roping. Rex was an outstanding header, and even won a championship saddle at the age of 80! He loved the sport and the friendships it brought him.
More than anything, Rex was a family man. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly cherished every moment with them. Rex was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dink and Irene Bivins.
Rex is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; son, Robbie Bivins and wife, Angie, of Purcell; daughter, Sheila Bivins of Norman; stepdaughter, Kathy Tennison of Oklahoma City; brother, Roger Bivins of Dibble; sisters, Alice Kennedy of Dibble, Kay Morgan and Aaron McBroom of Criner; eight grandchildren, Vanessa Trammell and husband, Randy, Sam Bivins and wife, Sarah, Stacy Bivins and wife, Marlee, Hayley Page and husband, Eric, Taylor Page, Briar Bivins and Rhealynn, Justin Durham and Jennifer and C.J. Durham; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
