Nearly time for Lights at lake

Perhaps more in 2020 than any other year, Purcell’s Lights from the Heart really will be from the heart.

John Blue, director of the Purcell Parks & Recreation Department, said that the annual drive-through display will open with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Blue had high praise for employees of the city’s electric and street departments who worked long hours getting the more than two miles of lighted holiday displays up – all while also dealing with the after effects of a winter ice storm, brush pickups and power outages.

He added that Oklahoma Liquified Petroleum will be serving free hotdogs at the gate. Other refreshments available for sale will be kettle corn and hot chocolate from Oklahoma Kettle Corn.

The ribbon cutting by the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce will officially open the Lights from the Heart.

Blue said motorists will be admitted starting at 5:30 p.m., which is when the switch will be thrown to turn on the lights.

The display will be open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. nightly and different community groups will work the gate each night.

One featured attraction at Wednesday’s event will be a personal appearance by Santa who takes time out from his busy North Pole schedule to attend every year.

There will also be a selfie booth at the entrance for visitors who want a photo memory of the evening.
