Graveside funeral services for Frances Ann Wells, 91, were held Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Wells passed away on February 24, 2024, at Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell, Okla.
Frances was born on November 13, 1932, west of Purcell in McClain County. She was one of 16 children born to parents Elbert B. Burton and Ova Bell (Hook) Burton. Frances attended Washington Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1949.
After graduating she married Leon Curtis Wells on June 4, 1949 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Together they raised two daughters and made their home in the Woody Chapel Community, west of Purcell.
Frances worked at several odd jobs before going to work for Dr. George Long in 1971. She worked as his receptionist for 20 years. Frances was a dedicated Christian and longtime member of Iron Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church and playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ova and “E.B.” Burton; her husband of 37 years, L.C. Wells; five brothers, Elbert “E.J.” Burton, Charles Burton, Verdell Burton, Terry Burton and Teddy Burton; four sisters, Ruby Rohena Burton, Velma Pauline Burton, Orheta Lindsey and Evelyn Fannon; one grandson, Ty McAlister and one great-granddaughter, Regan Rohlfing.
Frances is survived by two daughters, Valinda McAlister and husband, Ron, of Washington and Colleen Carwile and husband, Jim, of Purcell; four brothers, Gene Burton of Purcell, Curtis Burton of Purcell, Glendon Burton and wife, Linda, of Purcell and Keith Burton and wife, Marie, of Okemah; two sisters, Patrica Evans of El Reno and Gail Trimmell and husband, Bob, of Purcell; five grandchildren, Curt Carwile of Purcell, Chad Carwile and wife, Jessica, of Goldsby, Guy McAlister and wife, Destini, of Edmond, Cale McAlister of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Joy Rohlfing and husband, Ryan, of Owasso; 13 great-grandchildren, Zacharie Carwile and wife, Kaelyn, Blakeleigh Mashburn and husband, Cade, Eliana McAlister, Ian McAlister, Liam McAlister, Rosie McAlister, Emery McAlister, Kade McAlister, Kalvin McAlister, Max McAlister, Jake McAlister, Ryder Rohlfing and Quinlee Rohlfing; and two great-great-grandchildren, River Carwile and Carter Mashburn.
