Food drive for Operation Christmas

Posted

A canned food drive for Operation Christmas is scheduled for Saturday in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church at 400 W. Main Street.

Co-sponsors for the event are the Purcell Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and Rotary Club.

Food will be collected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Operation Christmas organizer Peggy Christian said the food drive is very important this year.

“In the past, we’ve gotten food from the schools but this year they don’t have it to spare so the drive is vital to our efforts,” she said.

Donors may also drop off canned goods at Ron Davis’ Shelter Insurance Agency during business hours. The agency is located at 227 W. Main.

Participants can enter to win a Hamilton Beach 1000 watt 1.1 cubic foot microwave.

The deadline to apply for Operation Christmas is Friday.

Applications may be given to teachers, faxed to 405-527-6538 or emailed.

The email address is beckyd77@windstream.net.

Mrs. Christian said applications received after the close of business Friday will not be processed.

Applications are available at the Department of Human Services at 1930 S. Green Avenue, Delta Community Action at 122 W. Main.

Doors are locked but people with masks will be allowed in to fill out the application, Delta officials report.
