Fake superintendent?

When Oklahoma voters took the Republican bait and were hooked by Ryan Walters as State Superintendent of Public Education, it signaled in a sink hole for that department in our state government.

It’s a well known fact that Mr. Walters is not transparent. In fact, he’s had to be subpoenaed by the Oklahoma State House for non-compliance with requests for information.

His overzealousness to strip books he deemed as pornographic from school libraries at districts like Edmond, while ignoring local board policies, seems endless.

His entire legal team has abandoned ship and The Oklahoman recently reported on 130 or more Oklahoma State Department of Education employees who have pulled the rip cord.

It would seem nearly impossible for the OSDE to continue to serve the children, teachers and school districts at the same professional level with all of these departures.

And the hits just keep on coming.

As late as Monday of this week a Walters representative couldn’t answer questions at the state capitol from elected officials about his making questionable rules.

His lack of leadership continues to glare like a solar eclipse.

The Oklahoma City newspaper sent a list of specific questions about the agency’s ability to perform core tasks with the huge number of people leaving.

Spokesman Dan Isett called The Oklahoman “fake news”.

Better put, we would call Ryan Walters “fake superintendent.”

The question is what can be done about him and his lack of leadership for our schools?

A taxpayer asked me this question and an elected official told me the House of Representatives could impeach him but they won’t.

It’s a sad state of affairs.
