Funeral Services for Edna Fern Birdsong, 88, of Purcell were held Wednesdayday, April 5, 2023 at the New Mission Holiness Church near Purcell. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Birdsong passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023, due to complications from a concussion.

She was born September 27, 1934 at her grandmother’s home, who she was named after, near Woody Chapel, Purcell, Oklahoma.

With the exception of a three-year period in Jay, Florida, her address remained Route 2 Purcell her whole life. She was born into a Pastor’s home, and began playing the piano and the accordion for church services at a young age.

Fern met the man who captured her heart, G.W. Birdsong in July of 1948, when she was only 13 years old. This was at an outdoor camp meeting in Blanchard where he was preaching. Three years later on October 5, 1950 they were married.  Together they raised three children, Junior, Lendell and Gayla, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

Fern immediately joined the Birdsong brothers in ministry, and The Birdsong Trio began. Together, they served several churches, and were fortunate to travel to all 50 states and to numerous foreign countries, taking the Gospel to many people, and touching many people across the world. She was a woman of great faith and leaves a tremendous legacy for all who knew her. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her son, Junior Birdsong; her husband, G.W. Birdsong; her parents, Dovie and Lola George and her brother, Purman George

She is survived by her son, Lendell and wife, Cyndi, of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Gayla Lovell and husband, Roger, of Sapulpa, Okla.; daughter-in-law Sandy Birdsong; six grandchildren, Georgetta Lovell Tinnin of Oklahoma City, Catrina Lovell of Sapulpa, Okla., Cassandra Birdsong Bosch and husband, Chancey, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Valerie Birdsong Isaacs and husband, Jamie, of Broken Arrow, Tamara Birdsong Brock and husband, Jon, of Kellyville, Okla., and Devin Birdsong and wife, Hannah, of Purcell, Oklahoma; and she was a proud great-grandmother of fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and two nephews, Michael George and Randy George.
