Census Event Wednesday at Purcell City Hall

Posted

One of the most important things citizens can do for their community and state is to register for the census.

Since numbers are reportedly low from citizens in Purcell, the City of Purcell will be hosting a Census Event September 23 from 3-6 p.m. at City Hall located at 230 W. Main.

Individuals from the Census Bureau will be on hand to assist citizens with the registration process.

Everyone who registers will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Walmart gift card.

There will also be free goodie bags for the first 25 people to come in and complete the census.

The census count determines where funding is distributed for things like clinics, schools, roads and more.

It also determines the number of seats Oklahoma has in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Census officials report your information is safe and you will never be asked questions like your social security number, bank accounts or credit card numbers.

The questions to be asked are like age, sex and the number of people who live in your home including children.

It is the civic duty of every citizen to register with the census because it is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
