Board of Education recognizes students

Seventh graders in English Writing Contest

Several English students of Angie Wren’s seventh grade class that participated in the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English Writing Contest were honored at Monday’s regular monthly meeting of the Purcell Board of Education.

Recognized at the administration building were Bodee Duke and Kyler Featherston in art category, Lyrik Wilkins in comic category, Belen Resendiz in poetry, Ayden Cox and Dante McGee in informational essay, Ali Brady in descriptive writing and Ava Midkiff in personal narative.

Board members approved a road improvement project in conjunction with McClain County District 2 to resurface the road just west of the elementary building.

The county will provide the labor and the school district will pay the $39,000 for materials, superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo said.

The board passed a recommendation from OSSBA for a policy change in parent participation in the district.

Also passed was a raise from $2,000 to $4,000 for a stipend for the Child Nutrition Clerk.

The board approved the hiring of a junior high science instructor, Corrynn Breidinger, and accepted the resignation of part-time music teacher Natalie Gardner and Child Activities Nutrition Clerk Suzanne Torvi.

The also accepted the resignation of two para-professionals, Nubia Rubio and Julie Hiser and elementary teacher Britney Epperson.
