Police locate the bodies of five members of the Bever family: David, 52; April, 44; Daniel, Christopher, 7; and Victoria, 5. The two youngest were found in a bathroom on the first floor. David and Daniel Bever's bodies were found upstairs. April Bever's body was found near a couch in the living room on the first floor. All died of a combined more than 100 sharp force wounds believed to be from knives and possibly a hatchet. April Bever, according to court documents, tried to fight back and was stabbed nearly 50 times. A 2-year-old girl was found unharmed upstairs.

Police find brothers Michael Bever, 17, and Robert Bever, 19, hiding in a wooded area behind their family's house. They reportedly are covered in dirt and blood. Both are arrested on five counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

The Bevers are charged in the deaths of their parents and siblings, as well as the attack on their 13-year-old sister who survived. District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler (above) speaks to the media after the charges are made. 

Michael and Robert are arraigned by video and plead not guilty to all charges. Their attorneys previously filed motions requesting that records, including the 911 audio from the call to police, be sealed from public view. On Aug. 5, a judge rules that the computer aided dispatch transcript of the 911 traffic shall be released by the City of Broken Arrow. The audio, however, is ordered to be sealed.

Michael Bever's defense attorney, Rob Nigh (above), files a motion seeking to have his client prosecuted as a juvenile. State law indicates 15 to 17-year-olds charged with first degree murder are to be tried as adults and are ineligible for juvenile or youthful offender certification. Nigh also challenges the constitutionality of that law. 

A Tulsa County Judge denies Nigh's motion, which he appeals. In December, Nigh and Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler present arguments before the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. The court issues an opinion siding with the state's decision to prosecute Michael Bever as an adult.

The Bevers have their preliminary hearing, where Broken Arrow officers testify about the homicides of their family. They say the brothers planned to harm others after killing their parents and siblings, and that they wanted to be famous for what they've done. They also claim Robert Bever laughed while describing the attacks, and said he told them killing more than one person made him "like a God." The judge binds both over for trial.

Defense attorneys file a series of motions on their clients' behalf, which address issues such as the display of grief buttons and visible emotion during the trial. 

Robert Bever attempts to commit suicide inside his jail cell at the medical unit, where he's kept segregated from his brother. Tulsa County deputies say he tried to hang himself by tying a sheet around his neck and sleeping boat, propping the boat against the toilet to allow his head to hang freely. A sleeping boat is a large plastic canoe-shaped tray for inmates who don’t have a bed. The incident isn't made public until July 6.

District Judge Sharon Holmes (above) grants a continuance of the Bevers' district court arraignment, the third time she has done so since the February hearing. The decision allows the state more time to determine whether to seek the death penalty for Robert Bever. Michael Bever is ineligible to be sentenced to death because of his age. They will now appear in court Sept. 7. 

Robert Bever, 19, was sentenced to five terms of life without parole and one life term, all of which will run consecutively. District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler (above) said a decision on pursuing the death penalty would be made by the time of the arraignment. Robert Bever's attorney said the plea deal his client took allowed him to avoid the death penalty.

The two-story vacant home where five members of the Bever family were murdered in 2015 burned in a blaze that tore through the structure. An investigation has not determined the cause of the fire.

Broken Arrow City Councilor Mike Lester announces that he has reached his $50,000 fundraising goal to purchase the former Bever family home and eventually turn the property into a memorial garden. This is the rendering of what the finished project would look like.

A fundraising effort allowed the city of Broken Arrow to buy the former Bever family home at 709 Magnolia Court. The plan is to bulldoze the house and merge it with an existing park behind the property.

Broken Arrow police detective Gayla Adcock tenders her resignation from the agency amid claims that she mishandled evidence. Court records indicate Adcock was the affiant on multiple search warrants related to the seizure of multiple electronic items from the Bevers’ residence. After more than five hours of deliberation, jury finds Michael Bever guilty of killing his parents and three young siblings and of attempting to kill a then-13-year-old sister who survived to become the prosecution’s star witness against him. At least half the jurors openly cried as the verdict was read, with a bailiff passing out tissues. And Bever, as he tried to sit down after hearing the verdict, fell on the floor and was helped back into his seat by a sheriff’s deputy.

Crayon drawings from a journal Michael Bever kept while at the Tulsa County jail, which a deputy categorized as “morbid and violent,” were among copies of evidence in his murder trial released Friday to the media.

The court also provided a copy of Bever’s videotaped police interview with Broken Arrow Police detectives Eric Bentz and Rhianna Russell after he and his brother, Robert Bever, were arrested in the July 2015 stabbing deaths of their family. Also included in the evidence was audio of the 911 call placed by 12-year-old Daniel Bever shortly before he died.

The old Bever property will become a memorial park, where flower gardens and a simple gazebo will mark what City Councilor Mike Lester described as “a place no one wants to remember but no one can forget.”

Neighbors initiated the effort to build a park on the site, asking their city councilor if there was “a way to get rid of this house,” Lester said.

“They didn’t want to see a daily reminder of what happened here,” he said.

“Every minute and every second,” Michael Bever told a Tulsa County district judge, “I’ve been thinking about what I could have done different and what kind of life I could have had with my family.”

Expected to hand down a formal sentence in Bever’s quintuple-murder case, Judge Sharon Holmes instead decided to give herself more time to think about it, putting off a decision until Aug. 9.

The park took the place of the house at 709 Magnolia Court in Broken Arrow, where Michael Bever and Robert Bever stabbed their parents and three siblings to death.

“This is not a day that we’ve come to celebrate,” Broken Arrow City Councilor Mike Lester said. “It’s to show respect for those that were lost, to show support for the two sisters that remain and to honor our first responders who gave so much that night.”

Two staff members were standing in the day room at Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington about 4:40 p.m. on July 15 when Robert Bever approached them from behind with the weapon, the report states.

One of the staff members, a social services specialist, wrapped Bever in a bear hug and ordered him to drop the weapon, according to the report.

A sharply divided appellate court has upheld a Tulsa judge’s decision to disregard jury recommendations in the sentencing of Michael Bever for the fatal 2015 attack on his family members with his older brother.

A 3-2 ruling Thursday ensures his convictions and life sentences will stand, though two appellate court judges noted Bever’s term of incarceration “is in contrary to the jury’s wishes” and appears to violate the spirit of the U.S. Supreme Court’s guidance on punishment for minors convicted of violent crimes.
