Athletic attendance guidelines

Purcell School officials have released guidelines as school activities approach.

Home events: As we approach the start of fall athletic contests, we would like to share with you our guidelines for home and away events.

For all home activities, we are requiring you wear a face covering, wash or sanitize your hands when coming/leaving our facilities and maintain physical distancing as much as possible.

We also recommend when available that you bring a lawn chair to spread out as much as possible during our games.

Engaging in these behaviors has shown to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“Our goal is to create as safe of an environment as possible so we can keep athletes, coaches and the community safe which allows us to keep and enjoy a great season,” Purcell Athletic Director Carol Testa said.

Away events: Our teams will travel on a bus and will maintain physical distance as much as possible.

Coaches and sponsors will maintain a seating chart for all students in case there becomes a need for contact tracing.

Temperature checks will be taken before the athletes board the bus and hand sanitizer will be available for use.

Everyone must wear face coverings on the bus as the ability to social distance is minimal.

Windows will be down when weather permits to increase air circulation on the bus.

Buses will be thoroughly cleaned between uses.

Parents have the option to transport their own student to and from the away contests if they chose to do so.

“Please communicate with your students’ coach if you would like to do this prior to the contests,” Testa said.

“We ask that you take your student’s temperature prior to leaving for the contest. For safety reasons, we discourage athletes from driving themselves unless there is an extreme circumstance.

Athletes should bring and maintain a personal water bottle and not share with others.

They should stay home if they are not feeling well, have a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit and/or have been a primary contact with someone positive for COVID-19. Athletes should also limit the sharing of equipment when possible.

Purcell Public Schools will follow the Oklahoma State Department of Education recommended guidelines tied to the Oklahoma State Department of Health Risk Assessment System. Each level (Green, Yellow, Orange 1/Orange 2, and Red) can have an impact on athletics and activities.

Depending on the amount of community spread, the district may limit the number of spectators.

“Please know that this is an ever changing environment and we are working as quickly as possible to address the changes,” Testa said.
