5 questions with Teresa Jones

Editor’s note: The Purcell Register continues its feature in which civic and business leaders will answer five questions. The following were answered by McClain County Treasurer Teresa Jones:

Q: Most people know you as a name on their property tax statements. What else would you like people to know about you?

A: My family moved to McClain County when I was in fourth grade. I attended Mary Simpson Elementary School and graduated from Purcell High School. My husband and I raised our three daughters in Washington where they attended school from kindergarten through graduation.  My daughters and their husbands have made their homes in Washington, Blanchard and Wayne and have blessed me with 10 grandchildren.

Q: What is the most challenging part of being county treasurer?

A: There have been different challenges through the years.  I would say the greatest challenge of the past year has been trying to stay open to the public to allow in-person payments while keeping everyone healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. I greatly appreciated everyone’s patience through all of that. 

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: The people.  I truly enjoy seeing all the people that come into our office to pay taxes and file mortgages along with a long list of other transactions.  I also have an amazing group of ladies that I work with. They make it a joy to come to work each day.

Q: What do you find most rewarding in life?

A: Being with family and friends. As some of us have realized through the years, life is too short. We have to keep those we love close by and enjoy every second we have with them.

Q: Everyone needs some down time. What do you do to relax away from the office?

A: Anything involving my grandkids is always wonderful.  From little league sports to school drama club programs, or just sitting around a campfire with everyone enjoying the evening.  Of course, when I get the chance, I love to put my toes in the sand and enjoy the sun and salty air of the beach!!!!
