5 questions with Kerry Wilhoit

Posted

Editor’s note: Answering The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is Kerry Wilhoit, McClain Bank Senior Vice President/Loan Officer.

Q: How did you get into banking?

A: After I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma, I knew I wanted to get into banking. Growing up, McClain Bank was always impacting the community in various ways.

I can remember walking into the bank and asking for various donations in high school and they were always very generous and had a great reputation in the community.

I knew I wanted a long-term stable career that I could grow in while helping others in the community…luckily for me, they had an opening.

Q: What’s your favorite part of the job?

A: Without a doubt my favorite part of the job is helping someone in need or helping customers achieve their dreams. Sometimes counseling customers for several months or years in order to obtain what they want is just as fulfilling.

Another rewarding aspect is being able to give back to the community and help future generations become bankable customers.

Q: What is the most challenging part of your job?

A: The most challenging aspect is keeping up with regulatory changes. Banking is always evolving with new laws and regulations being put in place.

Q: What’s changed about the industry?

A: Regulatory requirements…the banking industry is not a one size fits all industry. Technology has changed how we operate as a bank and also how we retain and attract new customers. This has been beneficial to both the customers and the bank.

Q: What do you like to do when you are not at work?

A: I like to spend time with my wife and two kids. I enjoy watching them play sports or experience new things. We also enjoy traveling and seeing places as a family.
