5 questions with Justin Johnston

Editor’s note: Answering  The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is Justin Johnston, a newly sworn-in deputy at the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.

Q. How long have you been in law enforcement?

A. Twenty years.

Q. What made you interested in becoming a deputy?

A. I grew up in a law enforcement family and spent most of my teenage years in and around a sheriff’s office. 

Q. Where is your home town?

A. Yukon, Okla.

Q. Family?

A. Wife with four biological sons, two stepsons, one stepdaughter and one grandson.

Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A. Serving the public when we’re needed the most. From someone scamming an elderly couple to saving a teenager’s life who had overdosed on fentanyl.

Q. What is the most Challenging part of your job?

A. Speaking to families whose loved one has passed away. Having to empathize with the family during a traumatic time can be challenging to my own emotions.
