Funeral services for Larry Cornforth, 75, of Purcell were held Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Purcell. Interment was at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mr. Cornforth passed away Friday, August 12, 2022.

Lawrence Arthur Cornforth was born November 21, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Okla., the oldest of four children born to Lawrence Leeroy Cornforth and Evelyn Grace (Gabler) Cornforth

Larry was raised in Lindsay and attended school there, graduating with the Leopards Class of 1965. He then attended Oklahoma State University where he earned both his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Agriculture. Larry married his classmate and longtime sweetheart, Joyce Henry, on December 24, 1966.

Larry first worked as an Assistant, and then County Supervisor administering rural loans throughout Oklahoma. He was District Director for the Farmers Home Administration in Woodward where he coordinated FmHA programs in Northwest Oklahoma. He worked for Farmers and Stockmen Production Credit Association in Ponca City, and later for Farmers Exchange Bank in Cherokee as Vice President.

Larry and Joyce eventually settled in Burlington, Okla., where together they raised three sons, Andy, Tony and David. After a long and distinguished career in banking, Larry surrendered his heart to the call of ministry, and began preaching. He was a man of great faith and was never idle, and he stayed busy studying scripture, making visits and with church missions.

He pastored Valley Christian Church in Pauls Valley for several years, was Chaplain for Pauls Valley General Hospital, Garvin County Sheriff Department and active in Garvin County Jail Prison Ministry. He served in Kiwanis, the Lions Club and was a McClain County precinct volunteer, always looking for ways he could serve others. In 2011, he moved to Purcell, and remained active in his church, Union Hill Baptist Church.

In his downtime, Larry enjoyed the great outdoors; fishing, gardening and enjoying God’s creation. He and Joyce were fortunate to travel some, and he always made time for his grandkids, supporting them in their various activities and sporting events. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn Cornforth.

Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; his boys, Andy Cornforth and wife, Aimee, Tony Cornforth and wife, Amy, and David Cornforth and wife, Mindi; his sister, Kathy (Cornforth) Bertram and husband, Dick; brothers, Jerry Cornforth and wife, Wanda, and Don Cornforth and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, Emily, Aubrey, Katy, Haley, Ethan, Maci and Leah; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

His family would like to thank his Senior Companion, Steve Tooley, for his deep friendship and care for Larry. We also appreciate the nurses and staff of Valir Hospice Care as well as the therapists and nurses from HealthBack Home Health and “On the Move” Therapy.
