Wayne will travel to Ringling Friday night for a bout with the Blue Devils.

Ringling, 4-4 this season, is coached by Tanner Koons.

Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said his team will face a changing opponent Friday night.

“They’re pretty much like they always are,” Sharp said. “They’re really good.”

Quarterback Rhett Roberts makes the offense go according to Sharp.

“He is really good and he’s basically like a tail back at quarterback,” Sharp said. “They’ll use empty sets with double tight ends or fullbacks in a jumbo set and get him going down hill and just bloody your nose.”

Roberts is also the middle linebacker on defense and makes a bunch of plays on that side of the ball.

“They’re really physical up front and their linemen keep offensive linemen off the Mike and he makes plays,” Sharp said.

The Blue Devils will line up in multiple fronts on defense but will show a lot of 4-3.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night.

Rush Springs

Wayne was defeated 28-0 by Rush Springs last Thursday.

The game was moved up one day because of the threat of inclement weather.

Wayne wasn’t ever able to get into a groove in the lopsided contest.

“Going into the game we felt pretty good about our chances,” Sharp said. “They came out and hit us in the mouth and we couldn’t match their physicality or intensity.”

Miscues plagued Wayne throughout the game and positive momentum was in short supply.

“We had little mistakes in the game that turned into big mistakes,” Sharp said. “We’re not doing the little things right and we’ve been telling them as long as we keep making these little mistakes we won’t get over the hump.

“We’ve go to play hard this week and get into that competitive mind set.”

Wayne is 2-5.
