Wayne travels to Healdton Friday for a 7 p.m. District showdown against the Bulldogs.
Coming off a bye week, the Bulldogs are ready to get back to game action.
Healdton will provide a capable adversary.
Defensively, they will base out of a 4-4 defense.
In the back part of the defense, the coach has seen them playing significant snaps in cover three coverage.
“They have a big defensive line and they’re pretty physical up front,” Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said. “We’ll have to throw a little bit to loosen them up. The last few games teams have been pinning their ears back and coming after us. We’ll need to loosen them up and get our run game going.”
On offense, the name of the game is power rushing for Healdton.
They’ll run power and blast but out of multiple formations. “I think I had to go over about 20 different formations that they run out of,” Sharp said. “They have the big offensive line and they’ll run play action off their run plays.”
Wayne will need to contain junior Roo Franklin.
The junior has played both tailback and wide receiver and is the best playmaker the Bulldogs have.
“He’s a big, powerful kid and he’s fast,” Sharp said. “They’ll put him in different places to get him the ball.”
Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m.
Wayne is 1-2 this season.
Notes
Head coach Brandon Sharp’s Defensive Player of the Week nominee after the Lexington game was Jeremiah Peterson. The freshman recorded 13 tackles.
