After a bye week, Wayne begins the District portion of their schedule Friday when Healdton pays a visit to town.
Healdton is 3-0 and under new leadership in head coach Ben Justus.
“He comes from a coaching background,” said Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp.
Healdton runs a version of a 4-3 while on defense.
They walk their outside linebackers up to the line of scrimmage and cover up blockers to let their middle linebacker run tackle to tackle.
“Their outside backers are really good and their huge up front,” Sharp said. “They’re big and physical and it’s going to be tough.”
The coach said they are fast in the secondary and will mostly play quarters in coverage.
Offensively, Sharp says Healdton lines up in many different formations.
“They are multiple and he does a bunch of formations,” Sharp said. “We’ll really have to make sure we’re getting lined up.”
One of their outside linebackers will serve as the primary running back on offense.
“He’s really good,” Sharp said. “He’s an athletic 230 pounds and is fast and physical. We’ll have to play well.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at D.S. Zack Powell Stadium.
Idle
Wayne used their bye week to get several players healthy who have been a little beat up.
“We’ve had good practice and their attitudes are good,” Sharp said. “We’ll be ready to go.”
