Three wins on Thursday sealed it for the Lady Bulldogs. They beat ECP 17-7 and Crescent, 6-5 and 8-3, to win the District tournament and move on to Regionals for the first time since 2014.

“I think if we show up and play we have a chance. Once you’re past Districts all the teams are good,” head coach Charles Durrence said.

Next up was a trip to Pocola for Regionals on Wednesday. Their first game was scheduled for 2:15 p.m. against the Hartshorne Lady Miners.

Hartshorne is 14-10 on the season and is ranked number 10 in Class 3A. They beat Savanna twice in the District tournament.

“We’ll have to play solid defense and hit the ball well. They usually have a good team.”

Pocola (22-3), ranked number two in Class 3A, and Gore (10-8) are also in the tournament.

The winner and runner-up from regional play will move on to the State tournament.

Crescent

The Lady Bulldogs had to beat Crescent twice to win the District tournament and move on to Regionals.

They got a 6-5 win and an 8-3 win.

“We had to battle the wind in the Crescent games and we left too many runners on base. We would load up the bases or get runners on first and second then hit the ball up, it would get caught up in the wind, and they caught it.”

In the final game of the series, Wayne had a 3-0 lead when Crescent got three runs in the bottom of the third to tie up the game.

But, Kaylee Madden and Faith Brazell both singled to bring in runs and help their team pull away for good.

Wayne would score three more insurance runs.

The team had 19 hits in the win. Jordyn Debaets had three while Haylee Durrence, Haiden Parker, Daliyah Fuentes, Shyleigh Mantooth, Mayce Trejo, Madden and Brazell had two each.

Mantooth was in the circle for all seven innings. She gave up three runs on 12 hits.

The first game with Crescent was a tighter contest with Wayne pulling away in the fifth inning.

With the score at four-all, Allison Ryan popped a solo homerun to help Wayne go ahead for good. Wayne scored an insurance run in the sixth.

“Allison is playing well. She’s hitting the ball better right now,” said Durrence.

Crescent was not going away quietly, as they scored a run in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 6-5.

Once again Wayne had 19 hits in the win.

Ryan was the leader at the plate going 4-4 with three singles and the fifth inning long ball.

Brazell had three hits and Durrence, Madden, Fuentes and Madi Sharp all had two hits.

ECP

Wayne got a run-rule, 17-7 win over ECP in their first game of the District tournament.

With 20 hits in the game, the Lady Bulldogs’ offense was humming.

A home run from Fuentes and a triple from Ryan in the first inning helped get five runs on the board.

The eight runs scored in the second inning were thanks to singles from Debaets, Fuentes and Durrence and a triple from Brazell.

Wayne had 16 ribbies in the win, including four from Durrence and Fuentes and three from Brazell.
