Late last week Wayne was in Binger for a tournament. They started with a 62-32 win over Geary, then fell to Union City and finished with a 61-57 win over Verden.

Last Tuesday, Wayne fell to Little Axe 59-45 at home.

Nine Bulldogs were on the books in the 62-32 win over Geary, Wayne’s first game of the Binger tournament. Jaxon Dill (19), Wyatt Webster (14) and Bradey Vanschuyver (10) were all in double figures.

Wayne jumped out in front and held a 37-22 lead at halftime.

“We started slow against Geary. The guys shot the ball well.

“We made some halftime adjustments and were able to get lots of guys in the game for some playing time,” head coach Jackson Embry said.

The second half was just as dominant as Wayne added 25 points through the third and fourth quarters while limiting Geary to just 10.

That win set up a game with Union City. Wayne fell 87-53.

“We scored the ball well enough to win, but we didn’t have an answer to their best scorer who finshed with more than 40 points,” Embry said.

Dill and Webster were once again in double figures with 15 and 13, respectively.

The Tigers outscored Wayne in every quarter except the fourth.

The loss to Union City moved Wayne to the other side of the bracket where they played Verden. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 61-57.

“In a back and forth game, our guys were poised in the fourth quarter to pull out a really good win over a good Class A team.”

With 26 and 22 points, Dill and Webster were the leading scorers for Wayne again.

Dill scored 60 points through three games in the Binger tournament. Webster had 49. Both guys were name to the All-Tournament team.

Little Axe

Last Tuesday Wayne hosted Little Axe and fell 59-45.

Dill and Webster were the leading scorers with 18 and 11 points. Ben Fisher and Ty Kemp each added eight points.

“The score doesn’t reflect how close this game was. We played well through three quarters, but couldn’t put all four quarters together,” Embry said.

Wayne was scheduled to play the OKC Knights on Tuesday and then they will be off until their schedule resumes on January 2 when they play at Lexington.

Girls

Wayne dropped their first game of the Binger tournament to Class A #18 Binger, 50-36.

“We talked about how we came in there with nothing to lose and the girls played it close the whole game,” head coach Embry said.

Taelyn Ringwald tallied 20 points while Faith Brazell added 11.

In their second game, Wayne beat Geary 48-36.

“We really struggled to score in the first half and we were down.

“But, Faith took over in the third and fourth quarters.”

Brazell finished the game with 17 points, 15 of those points were scored in the final two stanzas.

Ringwald joined her in double figures with 14.

In their final game of the tournament, Wayne fell to Cordell, 30-24.

“We got behind the ball some and started playing in the fourth quarter. By then it was just too late,” Embry said.

Brazell had 12 points while Ringwald added six and Madi Sharp had four.

Little Axe

The Lady Bulldogs beat Little Axe 35-17 last Tuesday night. The game finished early in the fourth quarter after a Little Axe head injury and a medical emergency.

Ringwald finished with 14 points. Alyssa Hobson added seven.

Tuesday night, Wayne was headed to Oklahoma City to take on the Knights. Then they are on break until January 2 when they will be in Lexington.
