Washington playing host

Washington is set to play host beginning today (Thursday) for the Washington Invitational Softball Tournament.

This year’s field is 12 deep and includes intra-county foes Purcell, Blanchard and Newcastle.

Washington plays at 12:30 against Sulphur. A full bracket can be found on page 3B.

Washington is fresh off the Best of the West tournament in Weatherford where they picked up one win in three outings.

Weatherford

They opened with an 11-10 loss to 5A Weatherford.

Emma Curry was her normal electric self at the plate, going 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Ellie Loveless, Tinley Lucas and Mattie Richardson also homered in the game.

Washington scored six runs in the third inning but couldn’t keep up with Weatherford in the fifth and sixth innings.

Anadarko

The Warriors took a 19-2 win over Class 5A Anadarko in the next game.

They put up eight runs in the first and 11 in the second in the three-inning contest.

Maggie Place hit a grand slam and Curry hit two home runs to knock in five runs on the day.

Mustang

Washington fell 25-19 to Mustang in their last game of the tournament.

Washington put up 10 runs in the third inning to get back in the game at 10-7.

But Mustang answered with a 13-run fourth to keep victory out of reach.

Curry and Place each had two homers. Washington also got long balls from Elly Allison and Tinley Lucas.

Washington is 9-7 and ranked No. 5 in Class 3A.
