The Washington softball team traveled up I-44 over the weekend to play in the Branson (Missouri) Festival.
They won all their games while giving up a grand total of four runs in five games.
“We played really well,” Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “It was a fun trip, for sure.”
They opened the festival with the Seneca, Mo. Indians and took that one by a final of 15-2.
Olivia Palumbo and Ally Dennis split the pitching duties in the game, both going two innings.
Palumbo had two strikeouts while Dennis fanned four batters.
Washington only had six hits in their 15-run game.
They opened the game scoring two runs in the first inning, then put the foot on the gas with a nine-run second.
Washington scored their final four runs in the fourth. Seneca scored two in the same inning and were unable to mount a rally.
Rogersville
The Warriors poured it on Rogersville, winning 13-0.
They scored five in the first, a single run in the second and seven runs in the fourth inning.
Shelbie Caveness was 2-3 with three RBIs and had a homer. She also walked.
Ava Grimes was also 2-3 and had three ribbies.
Addy Larman, Daphne Palumbo and Grimes all had double.
Salcedo struck out seven in four innings in the circle.
Abby Byrd closed out the game and struck out two batters in the final inning.
“We were able to throw all four pitchers while we were up there and everyone got innings,” Lampkin said. “They had good swings and good bats up there. We had to pitch it the whole time and play defense.”
Joplin
They beat Joplin 6-0 in the third game.
Olivia Palumbo went the distance in the circle and struck out nine batters while only giving up two hits.
Daphne Palumbo, Kinzlee Pogue and Raelee Adkins all hit doubles.
Washington’s two first inning runs would turn out to be all they would need, but they scored one run in both the third and fourth innings.
Branson
They defeated the Branson Pirates 9-2 next.
The Warriors sprinkled nine hits in the game.
Daphne Palumbo and Salcedo both had a pair of RBIs.
Emersyn Massey was 2-3 and Kelby Beller was 2-2.
Salcedo and Dennis handled the pitching duties and struck out four and five batters, respectively.
Lampkin said his team hit the ball well and said Daphne Palumbo, Grimes and Massey all hit over .500 in the tournament.
Carthage
Their final game was a 10-0 shutout of Carthage.
Olivia Palumbo put on a dazzler in the circle with 11 Ks, no walks and only allowing three hits in six innings of work.
Salcedo and both Palumbos hit triples in the game. Salcedo also homered.
Washington’s six runs in the fourth inning gave them breathing room after they only led by one run from the first inning until then.
“It was good for us this time of the season to go play and relax,” Lampkin said. “There was not a ton of pressure on us for these games.”
While they were there the coach said the team was also able to go to Silver Dollar City and have dinner at Dixie Stampede.
The Warriors are now looking to the Regional tournament and the State playoffs.
They are 31-2 this season.
