Warriors one game short

Posted

The Washington Warriors battled to the final inning of the season before finally succumbing to the Tishomingo Indians (34-3) in a 3-0 loss at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

Still, silver is a pretty color and there are about 62 other teams in class 3A who would gladly trade spots with Washington.

In the finals sophomore Maggie Place pitched a shutout until the final inning. She struck out eight batters while only walking two. She gave up five hits.

Washington was never able to crack Tishomingo pitcher Grace Anderson, who threw a no-hitter against the Warriors while striking out 15 batters.

Washington defeated Pocola 5-0 in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.

Place struck out eight batters in the contest.

Kaydence Andrews was 2-2 at the plate while Mattie Richardson, Ellie Loveless and Abby Wood were all 2-3.

Washington breezed by Chisholm 19-1 in the opening round of the tournament - which was played at the Ballfields at FireLake in an effort to socially distance because of COVID-19.

Tinley Lucas was 3-4 with a home run and a triple. She knocked in four runs on the day.

Senior Emma Curry had five RBIs in the game and was 2-3 at the dish.

Washington ends a well-played season with a 37-6 record.
