The Washington Warriors boys basketball team defeated Dove Science 79-16 Friday to take the District crown.

They exploded out of the gate to a 26-0 first quarter.

“We were able to get the lead early and we coasted from there,” head coach Trevor Smith said.

The Warriors had 15 different players score points in the game.

“Everyone scored and that was cool,” Smith said. “Everyone did a good job of playing together.”

Cage Morris led all scorers with 14 points.

Mason Adams was also in double figures with 10 points.

Crooked Oak

With the win, the Warriors now play Crooked Oak in the Regional tournament.

They play at the Warrior Event Center at 7:30 p.m.

Cooked Oak, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, is 20-4 this season.

“They are really athletic,” Smith said. “They shoot it well and press a lot. They’re quick. They get after you defensively and try to speed you up. It will be a challenge.”

Girls

The Washington girls had a bye for the District tournament.

Washington will host Lexington in the Regional tournament today (Thursday) at the Warrior Event Center at 6 p.m.

Girls head coach Kale Simon said his team had good practice leading up to Regionals.

“We’re working on doing ordinary this extraordinarily well,” he said. “We’re trying to condition our minds to do what we need to do and to play in our system.”

Washington is 20-3 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.
