The Washington slow-pitch softball won four of five games in their tournament to claim second place.
They had wins over Yukon (13-1), Moore (13-1), Norman (17-0) and Ripley (16-2).
Their lone loss was to Choctaw (8-2) in the finals.
The field was full of top teams from across multiple classes.
“Obviously the field was as stout as can be,” said head coach Tylor Lampkin. “There were a lot of top-ranked teams there. We went 4-1 and I was pretty happy with our girls.”
Yukon
The Warriors got out to a quick start against 6A No. 13 Yukon to open things, scoring four runs in the first inning and three in the second.
Their six-run finale in the fifth inning made it official and they rolled over the Millers.
Ava Salcedo and Raelee Adkins had two home runs each.
Kinzlee Pogue and Emersyn Massey also had homers.
Salcedo, Adkins and Massey all had four RBIs.
Moore
Massey came up big in the Moore victory with five RBIs on a 3-3 day. She went yard twice and scored three times herself.
“Emersyn had a big week with a handful of home runs,” Lampkin said. “Ava and Kinzlee did too. When the top part of our lineup is hitting like that everything goes well.”
Julie Hoehner was 2-3 with two doubles and had three ribbies.
Moore got their lone run in the first inning.
Washington score eight in the third to finish the game.
Norman
Washington shut out the Tigers, making it their fifth of the season.
Meantime, the Warriors pounded the softball on the way to a 17-run final.
Washington scored 10 runs in the opening inning, followed by one in the second and six in the third.
Salcedo was 2-3 with a homer and a triple. She had four RBIs .
Isabella Castillo was 1-3 with a triple and three RBIs.
Castillo has helped the defense in the infield and has been playing at a high level.
“She’s played really well at second base,” Lampkin said.
Ripley
Washington had another productive game at the plate against Ripley.
They put up six runs in the first before slamming the door with an eight-run third.
Daphne Palumbo homered and had four RBIs in a 2-3 game at the dish.
Massey, Pogue and Salcedo were again problems at the plate for Ripley.
Choctaw
The Choctaw game was low scoring through four innings, with a combined four runs scored. Choctaw’s five-run fifth opened it up and Washington was not able to answer.
Presley Lucas homered in the game but Washington only managed six hits. They also had four errors.
Westmoore
The Warriors bounced back to beat Westmoore 11-1 on Monday.
Pogue was 3-4with a homer and a double.
Washington’s eight-run fourth inning put the game out of reach.
Overall, Lampkin was very happy with his team during their tournament..
“We made a few adjustments with the lineup and it flowed a little better,” Lampkin said. “Defensively, we made a couple changes too. Right now I’m just trying to see how those changes help us moving forward.”
Washington is 15-3 and will play in the Turnpike Showdown this week, likely in Sulphur.
