Washington defeated Blackwell twice in the Regional tournament to advance to the Super Regional this week.

They won 6-2 and 5-2 behind solid pitching on the arms of Olivia Palumbo and Emjay Lucas.

In the first game Palumbo put on a show, striking out 10 batters to two walks in seven innings.

“The pitching was really good,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “Olivia did a great job.”

Palumbo got offensive backing from her team in the form of 11 hits in the game.

Julie Hoehner put the Warriors on the board in the third inning when she singled and knocked in Ava Salcedo, who had doubled to get on base. Hoehner finished the day 2-4.

Shelbie Caveness was 2-3 with a double and Daphne Palumbo was 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Olivia Palumbo was 1-2 with an RBI.

Emjay Lucas pitched the next game and overcame a slow start to collect the win.

“Emjay had a rough first inning but settled in after that,” Lampkin said. “After that she had a really solid game.”

She struck out four batters in her six innings of work.

Offensively, Hoehner had herself a day at the plate.

She was 3-3 in the game with a double and three RBIs.

Daphne Palumbo was 2-3.

“Julie Hoehner and Daphne Palumbo both had a really good week,” Lampkin said.

Emersyn Massey also went 3-3 and scored three runs.

Addy Larman was 1-3 with a double.

Yukon

Washington played Yukon Monday and picked up a 6-1 win.

Olivia Palumbo, Lucas and Salcedo all got time in the circle during the tune-up game. The trio teamed up for six strikeouts over seven innings.

Hoehner was 2-4 with two ribbies and a double.

Salcedo doubled as she went 1-3 with a pair of walks.

Playoffs

The Warriors set their sights on Sperry for a best-of-three Super Regional in Washington.

“I’m so proud of the growth of this group this season,” Lampkin said.

Washington is 22-12.
